NFP fyi

Faith & ethics

A space for thoughtful conversation.

NFP sits at the intersection of science, personal autonomy, and, for many, religious conviction. We try to explain the perspectives clearly without arguing for any one of them.

Why this matters

For some readers, NFP is primarily a medical or personal choice. For others, it is inseparable from religious teaching. We aim to make this site useful regardless of where you land, without pretending the questions don't exist.

Catholic teaching, briefly

The Catholic Church distinguishes between artificial contraception, which it does not permit, and Natural Family Planning, which it does. The reasoning rests on what the Church understands as the unitive and procreative meanings of marital intimacy. The most cited primary source is the encyclical Humanae Vitae (1968).

We summarize this teaching where relevant in our content. We do not argue for or against it.

Other perspectives

Many users practice NFP or fertility awareness for reasons unrelated to religion, including hormonal sensitivities, side effects of contraception, or a preference for greater bodily literacy. These reasons are equally valid and equally welcome here.

Editorial commitment

We do not promote artificial contraception. We do not condemn those who use it. We try to describe each perspective in language its own adherents would recognize.
